I’ve been pondering on the style prompt for BEDN all day. Should I share more pictures of my beaten up jumper or favourite jeans? Talk about what style I aim for in my Instagram posts (I’ve no idea tbh before you run over there to check). And then, just before it got too late for me to blog this song came on the radio.

This is my style. Interpreting words different ways to what’s expected. Living differently (otherwise even ?) than the norm. Swimming upstream, dragging a boat without a paddle, doing it the hard way just because it seems the right way.

And if I could manage a cruise (preferably with t’other half) that would be cool too.

{Thinking} it’s been a really weird and sad week in the blogging world with the sudden death of Kate from WitWitWoo. The way the community has gathered round to support her sons and build each other up has been fabulous. Check out #bemorewitwitwoo on Instagram to catch up.

I don’t remember which conference/event I met Kate at. She’s one of those people you feel like you’ve always known, and I’m still trying to process the idea that she’s gone. Doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.

{Reading} The Kindness Method. And I’ve got a lovely new Foyles notebook so I can write my plans in it.

Fab beach trip to catch up with home ed friends who moved to Scotland but were back for a visit. Turns out Smallest can swim if it’s the sea. Small is practising for next week’s gig and Big had a lovely trip to London to see a kentwell friend.

Friday frolics at the beach

With home ed friends.

When the older children were young, we were part of a network of early years home educators, built around Merry’s Muddlepuddle site. Perhaps because there were so few of us we worked hard to build relationships that are still strong 10 or more years later. (I’ve known Merry online for more than 12 years. I met her in person at a home ed camp when Small was just a few weeks old. )

While the email list is still pottering on, there are so many ways and means to build networks now that none of them seem to be quite as strong, if that makes any sense, and I’ve despaired of finding a group for my younger children. But now we seem to be doing it – this was our second meetup locally and I’m hoping we can go on making friends. Absolute bonus is that one family is walking distance from us – not had that before!

It would be so lovely for my younger children to grow up in a network of home educated peers, preferably not quite so virtually as it’s sometimes been. Here’s hoping.

Wake up. Feed Smallest milk before getting out of bed. Potter a bit, put kettle on, breakfast Smallest and snack myself, eventually saunter out for a run.

Run 1.5 miles on just under 16 minutes.

Home, shower, dress. Somewhere in and amongst put washing in, (nappies, strip sheet of double bed and bedside cot). Dress Smallest, wrangle children in passing.

Wander to Post Office (bumping into relative for chat on way) to recover money Big lost in stamp machine last night. Find it in rejected coin slot. Stop at coop on way home to buy stamps.

At home, pack lunch and hang out washing before piling children into car and heading to medieval reenactors fayre to meet with friends for afternoon to work out what is needed for Kentwell.

Meet dragons, buy signed book (The Tudor Tailor

) , facilitate drop spindle lesson for Big, get hugely reassured about whole Kentwell thing, but miss cafe and spend afternoon without tea.

Drive home.

Wash up, make tea, eat tea, fetch washing in, make beds and write blogpost on phone siting on bathroom floor while Smallest in bath and tea going cold.

And I wonder why I never seem to get anything done…
