The letter fascination continues. Her magnetic letters are out and stuck to the white/ magnetic side of her IKEA easel, and we’ve been spelling people’s names.

For physical education yesterday we were doing kata in the garden – I started and she joined in. Seems like this is quite a good way to get her doing stuff as well. We had a day without TV which I enjoyed, but I’m not sure went down nearly as well with anyone else.

Today she helped me sort the post by trying to work out who each letter was for, and that worked quite well. Now she’s chopping up bits of paper to make a collage, and that is making her very happy.

Although dd hasn’t managed another reading lesson yet she is suddenly fascinated by letters. She’s written her name several times, and has picked out letters in all sorts of places – although she didn’t choose the best time to notice the letters on my T shirt – ds was having a feed at the time!

Her writing is really improving, and so is her letter recognition – if only my patience could improve as fast we’d be getting on leaps and bounds. I keep telling myself that it’s the heat and the lack of sleep – I feel really out of it just now, but I’ve had a friend around all day which has really helped.

Wonder if dd would like a reading lesson tonight? Not sure as she looks really tired too….

Been ever such a long time since I posted here. Somehow having the new baby seems to be evaporating my time – dunno how that works.

Anyway, thought I’d mention that dd has decided to learn to read. She’s only had one lesson so far – but that has been due to the fact that we’ve been doing other stuff – but it went really well. We’re using 100 easy lessons, and we did try it six months or so back, but didn’t get anywhere with it. Hopefully we’ll try tomorrow, but she’ll only have her lessons off daddy, so it can be quite difficult to arrange.

There have been other activities mind, there was the home educators camp, she’s been to see her grandfather who is very educational on the whole plant thing, she learnt to muck out a horse – nothing if not a well rounded education.

Hopefully I’ll be putting entries in here a little more often from now on – I’m sure we’ve done loads recently, but that’s all I can think of right now.

Oops forgot to mention the school game!

Dd goes to nursery at the moment – it’s a childcare centre rather than a school attached nursery, but recently she’s started referring to the staff as teachers, and talks about taking the register and so on. Dp and I are discussing ways to rearrange our working to drop her hours there, but that is by the by.

Yesterday she decided to play schools with her three adult companions – we had to draw on command, and then there was the register – I was intrigued to see that she was making tally marks on her paper and then counting them up.

Well, I thought it was interesting 🙂

How did it get to be Monday? Where does the time go??

Saturday we shopped, yesterday my friend gug (renamed from her original name by my dd) arrived, and she and I went shopping, while dd and dp gardened. They reorganised flower beds and planted flowers, and saved up criticism for me on my return that I had killed my rose pot plant!

This morning dd started the day with a game of chess (rooks with king v king) with gug, although had the same problem of not liking having her rook taken. Not quite sure what we can do about that. Other than that it’s been a very quiet day – I’m less than a week from my due date for babe number 2, and I really don’t feel up to much.

Sure that the homebirth will be an educational experience all round though….
