I’m not sure how long I’ve known Jo or been reading her blog – let’s say a while. I’ve always loved her writing (if you’re not familiar, you’re in for a treat, so pop over to Slummy Single Mummy to check the blog out) so it was great to be invited to take part in the blog tour launching her debut novel.
Playgroups and Prosecco, The misadventures of a single mum, is the story of single mum Frankie told in diary format. Juggling work, a toddler and a teen (could have told her that’s a bad age gap tbh) and trying to make friends in a new location, Frankie might have instagram envy, but she doesn’t have the perfect instagram life. But with the help of other single mums she meets at playgroup, she’s hoping to find herself a new bloke via tinder, and get to grips with life in general.
I found this a really quick read – it took a little while to get into the journal style, but at the same time that gives it a consistency that makes it flow along really nicely. I’m a little perturbed that I appear to have missed out on the both the prosecco and the jaffa cakes that I should have been enjoying over the last few years, but I think I’ll cope. If you enjoy parenting humour, and brutally honest 3 year olds, this book will be right up your street. Out now in paperback and available on kindle and audiobook too.
Honestly, I’m really starting to feel left behind by all these blogging buddies publishing books! Need to pull my finger out and get my manuscript polished up. Got any tips for me Jo?
