We (me and the younger three) are away at a youth hostel this week, for our traditional pre Christmas home ed camp. We’re in Sheringham on the Norfolk coast and there is a lot of crafting and playing and reading and eating going on.
Today though, I needed fresh air. And I declared that Tigerboy needed it too, and dragged him out for a walk down to the beach.
Sheringham has a lovely high street, full of small independent businesses, and charity shops (of course). And when you finally fight your way past all the very attractive (to three year old) windows there’s a marvellous art trail along the sea front, with pictures of coastal life.
Tigerboy particularly liked this one
and I love how realistic it looks. All of that is painted, the rocks and bricks and door frame. (Not the steps or the railing, just in case you were wondering.)
And because it’s lifesize, a lot of it is at small boy eye height, so he could really appreciate it, much more than lots of art.
Time to leap into a boat?
We also enjoyed the bird life.
Probably an immature lesser black backed gull, I’m told on instagram, he really really wanted our crisps.. He didn’t get them, as there were far too many big gulls around waiting to swarm.
All in all it was a lovely walk. And we got back in time for hot chocolate, and me to watch the sunset.
A good day.

Do you know if the art trail is new? Dave’s dad lives in Sheringham so we know the town well, but don’t recall seeing these great murals.

Doesn’t look very new, but friends who’ve been here before don’t think they’ve seen it either. It’s fabulous to explore.

The murals are new this year. Hence so vibrant. The art trail though was devised in 2008 and the new pieces are along that same trail. On geograph I found a 2008 image and it’s a completely different mural http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1091533.

Actually -an Internet search tells me the one by the museum was last year. the sign near the cafe said the trail was revamped in 2015 so maybe that refers to the others – there are quite a few.

How wonderful to have art in life size like that and as you say it looks so realistic, I think it is because the proportions are spot on and the picture really draws you in. A very different sort of beach walk but one I would like to see too. It sounds like part of a lovely week away. Thank you so much for sharing this breath of air with #CountryKids,

My husband and I used to escape to that part of Norfolk when we were living in London. The murals are fabulous, I would love to see them, what a wonderful trail to follow. #countrykids
