A few weeks ago I picked up several rather lovely Miles Kelly/ wildlife trusts handbooks in Lidl. I got British Birds, British Wildflowers and Trees Handbook (British Handbooks) (amazon affiliate link), and British wildlife.
They’re not just fact books, although that would be pretty good in itself. Instead they’re structured as handbooks, with spaces for observations, drawings, photos as well as identifying information about each species so that you can find them.
We started in the garden, and found poppies. Smallest had her camera and after we’d done some measuring (our poppy was bigger than the 7cm mentioned) we did some drawing and painting too.
I can see these books being a core of our education at least in the warmer months 😉 Smallest loves all things nature, and so does Tigerboy for that matter. And I’m getting into drawing myself.
A good learning day. (Tomorrow I’m going to help them find the cornflower 😉 )
