Resources carnival – educational stuff for home or school.

26th September 2013 by Jax Blunt 5 Comments

Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to contribute to my latest carnival, I really appreciate it.

The theme was resources, although I’ll always link to general (home) education posts too. This is about sharing the love after all πŸ™‚

So, on resources for encouraging writing, a fab write up from home ed mama on story cubes, I’ll definitely be looking into these.

Keris recommends Brainpop – and makes me think I really should give it a second try.

Absolutely love this very comprehensive list of resources from Alison. And yes, I’ve a feeling I might still have a Schofield and Sims book or two kicking about as well πŸ˜‰

Rachel from home ed family shares her my atelier art activities, I’m very tempted by this.

I’ve done two posts, one on the younger children, and one on Small’s resources. I wish I had some of this Lego Education stuff that Hannah has found though!

Slightly old post but with a fabulous round up of lots of resources from Merry – very comprehensive list.

Helen shares how she keeps track of resource use with a ticksheet that helps keep everyone focussed and gives plenty of options.

Lisa dug into her archives and came up with this gem on learning to read – lots of great suggestions there, and the very useful reminder that all children are different.

There are lots of educational apps out there, but managing to get your hands on the right device to play them on isn’t straight forward. I’m friends with a lovely charity on twitter, who help people recycle unwanted mobile phones and exchange them for iPads. All above board I assure you, you can find out more here.

More general posts – a lovely one about the start of home education from Circus Queen. Is there really a defined beginning? And another one from Caro, considering the roles we take on, as parent or teacher.

Leoarna is getting started with flexi schooling and musing on what others think of her decision.

Junior Scholars is a resources site that I chat with on twitter, and they wrote an article on the pros and cons of home schooling (I prefer the term home education) as they see it. Do they have it right?

If I’ve missed your post out, I humbly apologise – wordpress has been doing some odd things with revisions lately, and it might not be me. And if you’ve just come across this carnival and would like to add something, feel free to drop a link in the comments and I’ll lift it up when I can.

Thank you so much for including our mobile phone recycling scheme that enables families to obtain iPads. Much appreciated πŸ™‚

Hey Jax, Thanks for the opportunity to link up; I’ve put together a post about flexi-schooling here http://www.notdifferentbutinteresting.co.uk/2013/09/26/deciding-to-flexi-school-home-ed-tuesdays-september-2013/ …
