Wednesday woes and Angry Birds.

I’m blaming the very nice lady at Three for the latter addiction!

As I sit here typing on my netbook, dp is sitting next to me playing Angry Birds on the HTC desire. Neither of us has a games console, I kind of think that I ought to want one, but have never managed to justify buying one, while he is against them. Having a phone that lets you play games like that could be part of the answer 😉

Drawback is that playing games doesn’t seem to enhance battery survival. Out at hall today, where there is next to no signal the battery has flattened in the course of the day, which doesn’t bode well for a weeks’ camping really.

Was exploring the other features, and noticed that it can be used as a wireless hotspot. The other gadget that I was sent to try out from #three was a Mobile Wifi or Mifi – it arrived at the youth hostel while we were on holiday, and was an absolutely wonderful device. Being able to connect to the internet with three devices (laptop, netbook, iPad) meant that towards the end of the week when the children were flagging I could give the ‘net fix that got them through – Small particularly recharges online. Am wondering how the HTC desire compares to the Mifi, and what the charges inherent would be – might have to have a bit of a play tomorrow.

And all of that while I’m also investigating a Nokia N97. Got to say that I’ve given it a good try, but it doesn’t hold up well against the HTC. The part I particularly wanted, the qwerty keyboard just isn’t really usable – it’s too big to be usable with one hand effectively, but too small to type on properly. There’s a lot of wasted space between the keys and the overall phone interface just doesn’t seem to be as friendly even as the E72 was. I’m really disappointed – I wanted to love this phone, and I just can’t. Very glad that I’m finding that out on a trial program and not as a result of buying it though!

There appear to be some glitches in the operating system too. If it hits an error, like being given the wrong password when you’re creating an email account, instead of telling you that, it just cycles around. And I can’t figure out how to get it to prioritise networks – I’d like it to stick with wifi if we’re at home, and use t-mobile while we’re out, but I seem to have to keep making decisions.

The HTC phone, being on Three, doesn’t seem to have that kind of quandary. It prefers to use Three. Which could be why it seemed to take most of the night to download Angry Birds 😉

Right, that was more of a waffle than a formed review, but I’ve other things to wrote tonight, so that will have to do for now.

(The woes? I thought better of revisiting them to write them down. Suffice to say that Christmas can be a stressful time of year, but the day was recovered with a viewing of Ice Age 3.)
