There is loveliness all around me here, in this unexpected time and place. Unexpected time as I’d given up hope of a third child, unexpected place in that I never thought we would move south, had never considered living by the sea.
The baby herself brings laughter and happiness – she’s a sunny little creature, inquisitive and cheerful, ready to play, laugh, giggle, chase. She leaves ripples of smiles in her wake – the whole family is healing from things I didn’t know had harmed us so.
I think we would have healed here anyway. But slower perhaps without her involvement. We’d have healed as we walked through the town and got involved in the community, healed as we played on the beach, healed as we enjoyed the garden around us.
Is that about beauty? It is for me. We’ve time to look for it, time to enjoy it, time to savour it. Making time for those things has become a priority for me, looking for the loveliness in the ppl around me, especially my children.
Not hard to find loveliness in Big. Yesterday, for example, as I was suffering from a headcold she gave the baby lunch, made me toast, brought me tea. Definite loveliness.
Small can be a little harder to analyse and cherish. But I glory in his quirky interest in the world, in the focus and attention he can bring to his interests, in the love he has for all his sisters. He tells me often that he loves having a baby sister, and now that she is mobile he plays with her. Not always well, but he plays 🙂
Now, I think a post about beauty, even if it is a writing workshop post, should have a pic or maybe even two, would you agree? How about this one, to celebrate my beautiful family.
and this, because I like it.
This post was written for the Writing Workshop and I chose prompt 3. On Beauty (by Zadie Smith) – Tell us about finding beauty somewhere unexpected. Or about what beauty means to you.

It is obvious you are healing and that life is so much better than it was. I’m glad you feel it too.
