Squeezing pennies, but still having fun.

Times are hard all over the country atm. Times are particularly hard here – I suppose if I were honest I’d expected by the time Smallest was two I’d be working at least part time, maybe from home. However, being 4 months pregnant has to a large extent put paid to that, as there’s not a huge amount I can commit to knowing that in a few months I’ll be focussing on another new being in our lives.

Which makes it even harder, as there will be that new being to look after. I don’t subscribe to the school of thought that babies are expensive or require expensive stuff – we use cloth nappies, small children are dressed pretty much exclusively in hand me downs, breastfeeding is free, requiring only my time (hm, wonder if I should cost that up at some point? Still going to be cheaper than bottles though given there’s no formula to buy and there’d still be someone holding the bottle as it were.)

Anyway, so very soon we’ll be a 2+2+2 family. Which has challenges all of its own. Having two littlies at the same time as having two mediums is something that I’m trying not to let adversely affect the bigger children. But I’m aware we haven’t had many exciting outings recently. So I’m wondering if I can shoehorn in a treat for them before D Day, maybe something big. I’ve been looking at theatres, shows, something really special, maybe even a trip to the o2 arena if there’s anything suitable coming up. How would you treat an 11 and 8 year old on a budget? Thoughts?
