Big has not stopped growing. Which on the whole is a good thing, though it’s slightly unnerving when your not quite 12 year old is coming very close to looking you straight in the eye. (This is an experience that my mother had, but she’s only 4’10 1/2″ so it’s to be expected for her!) We are really struggling with suitable clothing for her – she isn’t even a teenager, but she’s already well out of most of the clothing ranges of the big high street stores. I was told that Next goes up to 16 online, but when we looked, most of it was out of stock – hardly playing the game.
So I’m starting to explore women’s shops for her. We’ve had some success with Peacocks which has the dual advantage of being cheap and having a shop on our high street. We’re a bit limited otherwise – it’s a small town, and mainly consists of charity shops. We do hunt through them, but it’s very hit and miss, and when you’ve something specific in mind, it’s not really the way you want to go. Of course, the ethical implications of cheap shopping have to be considered too.
One of the ones I’m looking at is the Bench range. The hoodies, particularly the longer length ones look like they’d be perfect, as she lives in hoodies and leggings – soft clothes with no irritating hard bits. It’s rare she ventures into jeans even, but if she did there are options there, and I quite like the T shirts – they aren’t horribly logoed and don’t appear to be advertising anything I’d be wanting to avoid.
Just wish there was one handy so I could actually check out material and fit before buying.
