It was fun ๐
So that was the afternoon – lots of children, adults, newspapers and tape. Worked well I thought, think ppl enjoyed it. And there was playdough for children while adults rolled up paper tubes, so everyone had a chance to get messy.
Evening – went back to Barbara’s where the children had food, and then left Big there for an impromptu sleepover. Unfortunately, Small fell asleep in the car on the way home, so it was nearly ten before he went down, although he was fairly cuddly all evening rather than hyper, so while frustrating that I didn’t get much done, was quite pleasant.
This morning before group I dealt with some washing and washing up, and we managed a reading lesson as well. Forgot to mention that I picked up some new resources yesterday – including the rather disturbingly titled “Adventures in Literacy” folder (start reading, start writing, 8 books in one), for £4.99 in the works. Usually the kind of thing I’d run from screaming, but I gave it a second look when I recognised one of the pictures on the front cover. It includes Ten Tiny Teddies which is one that Big has chosen repeatedly from the library, as well as seven other similar efforts, so I figured it would probably be reasonably popular. Whatever rings her bell ๐
The other one looks great fun – can’t wait to try it out myself actually. Given Big’s sudden fascination with history (what is it with these mp children and history anyone???) I couldn’t resist a book called 120 Great History Projects could I? Plus it was only £2.99 – bargain at double the price methinks.
So, while it’s peaceful in the morning, before Big is brought back to join the fray, I think Small and I might try out a historical project or two ๐

oh WOW!! as the children say. that looks really great. May have to make one ourselves!!
Gill says
That DOES look good! Definitely inspiring, and great fun.
Alison says
Oh, now that is brilliant!!!! Looks really good, and I bet it was fun to make too ๐
History Projects book looks *very* interesting, must have a nose through that when we see you!
Heather says
Cool! And I would love a dome-home ๐
Wish we had a works round here (we did for ’bout 6 months but then it closed down due to lack of interest!) as that history book looks really inspiring.
Sarah says
Might have to get down to the Works myself – Heather if I see them there I’ll pick one up for you too ๐
The big dome is ultra cool, Jax!
Jax says
Heather, if Sarah doesn’t grab one for you, I’ll pick a couple more up next time I’m in there. Looks like I’d be able to find them new homes ๐
Tech says
That is brilliant!
Sarah, Roo and Kids says
Argh! I’m in that pic!!
The dome was fun wasn’t it.
Jax says
giggle – you’re in *most* of the pics! Something to do with really working to put the dome up I think. Didn’t want to use pic with lots of children on public blog – think that the couple of children in this one are only recognisable to ppl who would know them anyway.
Kris says
I think I’m in most of the pics too – seeing as how I was holding part of it up from the inside out! It was really good fun though (identifiable offspring are mine – I note Piglet is actually sitting down and not trying to dismantle it in that pic!) We’re going to try building one of straws in a bit.
Jax says
Here’s a tip – assuming you are using pipe cleaners for the connectors – make sure that there’s lots of pipe cleaner sticking down the straw – the first set of connectors I made I ended up removing as they just kept coming apart. Have made a wonderful construction toy though ๐

Layla says
wow that looks great fun!
Jax says
I think you might be a in a couple of the later ones Barbara – but I didn’t want to blog ones with lots of ppl’s children on. Planning on putting a private album on the site so that ppl can see them all, and smudging a couple more for more public consumption.
Sarah, Roo and Kids says
Don’t worry about smudging my kids! There’s plenty of pics of them online all over the place. I notice Dino wandering aimlessly in the background tho!
Nic says
ooh that does look good. our local group has a new home again from tomorrow so maybe that’d be a good project for us in a couple of weeks time.
I looked at that book in the Works too -might have to pop back without husband and see what else is on offer ๐
Alison says
Ah, damn, I was in town today, and forgot to go into The Works! Went straight to the library and back without hesitation or deviation. Jax, if you go again before we’re coming up, get me one ๐
Jules says
Ooooh, I have got that book ๐
rosie says
That is so cool! And I was trying to get a lift over in that direction, too, but no rear seatbelts. B said, O never mind, they’ll make another one ๐
Ali says
That looks really good Jax, great project.
Also I think I might know someone in that pic. I will have to dig out her e-mail address and ask her. I could be hallucinating!
