telling it the way it was

Here’s a tip

in case there is anyone else out there as utterly misguided as me. Don’t try to go shopping and for a haircut with two small children, not when the shopping and haircut are kind of time critical.
It’s been a long day. Started this morning with Big deciding that today, the day [...]

Good weekend.

Big was out for the night Friday night, then I picked her up for swimming Saturday morning. Slight glitch was that it was her teacher’s birthday so she’d taken a day off, and there was a standin. The good news is that this was the chap who taught Big in the summer, lovely [...]

I think we’re on a roll

And this is the post I was trying to write last night to prove it. Hope I can remember everything that we did yesterday!
I know that Big did this:
really impressed at how well she concentrated on it - especially as she didn’t start it til bath time! She thought hard about the [...]

Started off quiet

as Big slept in til 8.30 and the rest of us til just after 9. Wow. Small had woken me a little earlier (by trying to sleep in the same location as my rib cage) but it wasn’t too bad as these things go.
They did some drawing, and playing, and ate huge amounts [...]

Beginning to wonder

if we might have cracked it. There appears to be child led learning going on all over the place. It’s a bit more contrived than I expected, but I think that could just be me getting into the swing of it.
Today we have done more MMM stuff, including planting (do you call it [...]

So how was swimming Sarah?

‘cos it went well here. We were late, again, but it wasn’t our fault - is it just me that thinks signs saying “Swimming pool carpark” imply that the car park is meant for users of the swimming pool? Apparently there was a cross country taking place somewhere around the place - so [...]

From the sublime to the ridiculous

Well, we’ve done more Milly Molly Mandy school today, covering a bit of history although I’m not sure what else you’d say it covered. Some of that entrepeneurial stuff Joyce was talking about I think (it’s the chapter where MMM finds a penny for those in the know). Big is desperate to learn [...]

Much better all round.

Small and I had a lie-in, much needed after another bad night. I’m sure it’s his teeth, but he will not take anything for it, and indeed acts as if I’m trying to poison him throughout.
Despite this we had a pretty good day all round. Big and Small played together quite well, and [...]

Well, it seemed like a quiet day

until I got around to ticking the category list!
How did we fit so much in?
Up very early is one clue, as it was Big’s swimming lesson at 9.40 this morning. She and I fell out before and after, although she managed extremely well during (and I did make sure I told her so, even [...]

Thursday Jorvik and National Railway Museum.

After a really terrible night (the children took it in turns to wake up screaming, or lie on my throat, or just generally disturb me) we got ourselves organised and took the bus into the centre of the city to meet up with Joyce, Kath and Tech at Jorvik. I’d not met Tech before, [...]
