I mainly read. Polished off three books, including one over 600 pages.
My coffee machine didn’t arrive in time for me to hold a coffee morning because Small, who we often refer to as never gets ill boy, got ill. Repeatedly. So we ran for home last night, leaving around 10. 194 miles, should have been home just after 1.
Except jn 4 to 2 of the M6 was shut, so we were diverted. And my phone navigation kept crashing so I didn’t fare just veer off into the unknown.
And then we got to the A14 and that was shut. We were directed north up the M1 and back down it and some signs said A14 closed and some said this way and we ended up back at the closed junction with no way onto the M1 southbound. So we headed for the A5 and rejoined the M1 further south.
The suggested detour on the overheads was to use jn 15 and the A45. So we did. And 6 miles or so along it was shut and we were u turned along it to a diversion heading I don’t know where.
It was starting to feel personal by then, especially as I’d already seen that the route across from jn 13 had road closures too. We ended up following that diversion as well.
Diversions added 1 hr 40 minutes to our journey. Is there no national coordination (well obviously not) to prevent three alternative routes being shut at the same time? Utterly ridiculous. I got to bed at 4. Small has slept pretty much all day. An hour ago Tigerboy burst into wails, saying his tummy hurt and was then very very sick.
So overall I’m glad we came home when we did. Just wish it had been a smoother run.

Oh goodness! Sorry to hear you had a nightmare journey and hope you’re all recovered from it – and the sickness – soon x
