TalkTalk unveils brand new TV player

As part of my role as a TalkTalk family blogger, every now and then I’ll be bringing you product announcements, as follows.

TalkTalk’s 1 million+ YouView TV homes get more movies and on demand entertainment with all-new player

TalkTalk, Britain’s fastest growing TV service, has launched a brand new TV player to bring even more of the latest movies, hit shows and better functionality to its one million plus YouView TV customers.

The slick new TalkTalk Player will be the home of on-demand movies and entertainment. It will house TalkTalk’s movie rental service, TalkTalk Box Office, which has been improved to include more of the latest blockbusters to rent from £4.00 for 48hrs, with many released on same day as DVD. New movies are added every week and latest hits currently available include Hunger Games: Catching Fire, The Wolf of Wall Street, American Hustle and 12 Years A Slave.

TalkTalk has also made it easier for customers to discover all the channels and movies included in their package, with a new ‘Included Channels’ feature. Viewers can browse the entire library of over 500 movies and hundreds of hours of on demand programmes, safe in the knowledge that all prices are clearly marked and no payment will be taken until they enter their TalkTalk pin number.

All live channels included within the additional flexible monthly Boosts, and the seven additional Sky channels which were recently bundled into in TalkTalk’s Plus TV package, can now be found in the YouView guide from channel 401 onwards, making it easier to find favourite programmes.

Other features of the revamped TalkTalk Player include:

· Powerful search: Find a movie by searching by title, actor, director or keyword
· Watchlist: Save movies and shows to watch at another time
· More like this: Find similar programmes to your favourite shows
· Play all: Press the green button to play every episode in a series back to back
· Most popular: Your favourite shows and movies in one place
· Currently watching: If you need to leave a programme half way through, head to the ‘currently watching’ section to return to the exact point where you left off

The new TalkTalk Player is the latest installment in TalkTalk’s continual enhancements to its YouView TV service. In April, TalkTalk joined forces with FilmFlex to significantly expand its movie library and offer hundreds more movies on demand. It also bolstered its Plus TV package by adding in seven Sky Entertainment channels including Sky 1 and Sky Living. Earlier this month, it launched a new African Boost package, offering eight additional channels from across the continent, and just last week pre-school favourites Wallace and Gromit and Timmy Time joined TalkTalk’s popular kids line-up.

Tristia Harrison, Managing Director for Consumer at TalkTalk commented: “YouView from TalkTalk is fast becoming a destination for family entertainment and our all-new TalkTalk Player offers more of the best TV and movies at a cost viewers can control. We’ve made our on-demand movies, kids and Sky entertainment library bigger than ever and the TalkTalk Player is faster, and smarter, making it easier to find shows and films you want to watch.”

Roll out will begin from 11 June with the service becoming available to all one million plus TalkTalk TV homes by 17 June.

To access the new TalkTalk Player, customers simply have to connect their YouView box to their router and ensure it is either ‘on’ or on ‘standby’. Once connected customers can press the ‘TalkTalk’ button on the remote control to start enjoying the service.

Disclosure: I have been supplied with TalkTalk package to be part of an continuing review program.
