Christmas wishlist with added cheapskate gift swap.

I’m seeing a lot of companies running wishlist apps or competitions in the run up to Christmassome approaching festival or other, and I thought it might be quite amusing to have a think through what I’d like.

First of all, a good masher. The last one I had had a really badly designed handle, that let gunk in, but couldn’t be cleaned and so I ended up chucking it. Having to energetically fork potatoes a couple of times a week is really getting to me now though, and I’d like a decent replacement. Somewhere must do one without costing the earth?

Oh, how exciting my life has become that the first thing I think of is a good masher…

I’d quite like a Buffy the Vampire Slayer boxset. Although I’d settle for Once More, With Feeling as let’s face it, without a magic wand, I’d never find time to watch it.

I’d love a decent baby wearing coat. Something like the MaM coat from BabyArmadillo So expensive though, that I keep just hankering after one and not getting.

Oh, let’s go for that magic wand. I’d like a couple of hours in a day with me awake and my children asleep. Aren’t children supposed to need more sleep than adults? Mine don’t really seem to. Or Smallest grabs a nap during the day and then keeps going all evening, while I’m flagging and desperately needing Zzzs. I need a little bit of me space.

Could I wave it to make me organised? A recurrent theme to my life and my blog is that I just don’t seem to be able to keep on top of myself and my stuff. I’d like a bit of self control please. Some self discipline, and a bit of oomph. Hohum.

Perhaps I’d better settle for wishing for some inspiration to get some of the pattern ideas for crochet out of my head and onto paper, and then eventually into yarn. And a bit more of that time to get the half a dozen web projects launched.

Ooh, and while I’m at it, I could do with a netbook that doesn’t white out if you get the screen at the wrong angle :(

I’d like a couple of pretty things. A teething necklace that I don’t mind wearing for when next one comes along. And to be able to find the set of watercolour pencils I bought ages ago so that I could use the sketch pads I found the other day…

I’d settle though for something handmade or secondhand with a bit of imagination thrown in. And with this in mind, I thought I’d do another bloggers’ gift exchange as last year’s was pretty successful generally speaking. I’ve set it up at Elfster, with a £5 limit and the suggestion that handmade or secondhand is absolutely excellent. I’m thinking thrifty folks, imaginative, so only join in if you think you can keep to those guidelines. Sign up deadline is Nov 21st, to be posted by December 12th, though preferably earlier. Stick me a comment if there’s anything I’ve missed, and otherwise, feel free to share :)

What a great list and the gift exchange is a fantastic idea! I’m going to have a think and hopefully sign up. I have a wishlist blog hop (my first ever one) over on my blog if you’d like to link up? http://mummymanda.com/2011/11/03/dear-birthday-and-christmas-wishlist-fairy/

Hope you get some of what’s on your list – especially the magic wand! I’d love one of them! x

Aww Jax – what a modest list and yet so hard to achieve things like time to ourselves, isn’t it?
I’m off over to your Elfster thing to see what it’s all about.

  4. I love your list. You got me hooked with the masher. I hate it when the potato goes all up the handle! I too am off to Elfster!

Dear Jax, can I give you an early Christmas present? I have a MaM babywearing coat which has long been outgrown by the child it once kept warm, and is now sitting there reminding me that I am no longer a babywearer. It is one of the original batch that BabyArmadillo imported in 2006 (I think I got a pre-order special offer or something), and there were a few modifications to the design the next year, eg it doesn’t have the inner pocket described on the current design specification and the baby hood has changed design slightly, and they’ve added some insulating flaps on the zips – if you scroll down to the bottom of http://www.mamdesign.net/carrying/clothes/mamcoat.html you can see a list of the main changes they made. It is in need of a tiny bit of tlc (eg the odd pocket seam fraying), but that shouldn’t be difficult for you. It did have loops of elastic on the ends of the string on the baby hood (that you attach to the front of the coat to support a sleeping baby’s head) – the loops snapped quite quickly, but I just used the adjustable loops of the string itself to do the same job – I think this was another thing they modified in the later version. It is a Small – I am a petite size 10-12 top, 14 bum, and it’s roomy on my top-half and fits comfortably around my hips. Anyway, it’s yours for postage if you want it…? What do you think? Let me know.
