and listen to the satnav.
I was so proud of myself yesterday. I got up, got children moving, had shower, breakfast, made packed lunch and was out of the house so that we would only be a couple of minutes late to music. (Obviously I’d have been prouder if we’d been on time, but hey, there you go.) Then as we were going along I was explaining to Big that I would drop them at the door so that they could go in ahead of me while I parked the car, and as I was explaining that, we missed the junction. 🙁
So we were ten minutes late instead of the 4 the satnav had been predicting. 😳 Moral of the story – keep your eyes on the road and listen to the satnav.
Anyway, the parts of the music session we made it to were excellent again, even if Small didn’t deign to partake. Knowing him he will have been taking it in anyway. Composer of the week was Johann Strauss II with a viennese waltz. soa seems to enjoy the sessions too – she’s getting very interactive these days.
After the session we headed off to the carpark of a community hall conveniently located behind a tesco with no community in sight. Hm. Children ran around like loons and we ate our packed lunches. soa slept. 🙂 As she was waking up we moved on to the bowling alley, where she screamed through a nappy change and was then quietened with a feed. Big enjoyed bowling, Small didn’t. It wasn’t really the place for catch up conversations but it was nice to see C and her 4 who we hadn’t seen since before soa was born.
Home, where Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa had arrived courtesy of lovefilm (courtesy itself of topcashback). It was a timely arrival, as the children needed to veg, and so veg they did. Until it was time for Big to go out to Brownies when Small bounced his way around the house, playing on the puter, not drawing as we’d run out of drawing paper! 😯 and generally amusing himself while I made tea.
Cauliflower cheese used to be a way of getting veg into Small. Until one week I made it with the wrong colour cheese and he hasn’t touched it since. Sigh. So he had a baked potato with a cheese slice on it (don’t knock it, at least now he’s eating cheese!) while the rest of us enjoyed bubble and squeak (made with brussel sprouts, yum) and cauliflower cheese. Still at least he is eating two portions of fruit a day now.
Once the kids were in bed Tim and I watched Terminator Salvation (my advice – don’t. Not a good film. Would probably be better if the two male leads looked more different, for ages we both thought it was one guy and a time travel plot!).
Then bed.
And to thursday, which was when I started writing this post. Aargh. I get so little two hands free time to devote to blogging still! When I do have both hands free I try to get on with washing and sorting and dealing with other children.
Thursday morning did not start well. Big has been getting on with her work according to her chart for a while now, so it was obviously time for her to get bored. Hm. Tried to be patient, understanding and encouraging for a while, then lost it and shouted back. Given that the breadmaker hadn’t been put on overnight so we’d no bread for lunch decided a change of scenery would do us good, so we went out for lunch at subway. Visits to various other shops and the library kept us out for over two hours, which made us all feel a lot better I think.

I thought lunch at Subway sounded like a brilliant response to a stroppy Big 🙂 I also think that sometimes there have to be complaints from the kids just in case we parents start thinking we’re doing okay! Can’t have that! 😉

Those music sessions sound excellent – luckily well worth the hassle by the sounds of it!
