Friday out at friends

On Friday we went over to see Em. The kids took stuff to play magic school, including spare wands for E and R, and I took a bag of yarn and various patterns so I could start something else.

In the end, they didn’t play magic school, but it was a game filled afternoon as Em played The Settlers of Catan with R and Big, and Small and I had a game of Blokus then one of Hey! That’s My Fish!. Particularly enjoyed the latter game, as it really did even out skill levels between Small, leaping all over the board, and me, trying to think about it – I beat him by one fish when we counted up :)

After that, E had pulled it back together enough to rejoin the group and play Mario Party 4, which didn’t work desperately well, as Small kept cancelling out of the games. I think he was finding it difficult to work out what to do, and having three girls all tell him at once didn’t actually help much :)

Matt arrived back from wherever he’d been, and went out again to fetch tea items, and then proceeded to cook it as well, what a star ;) There was a brief interlude somewhere in there while he showed Small some software too, they really get on well together which is lovely.

And sometime either before or after tea, I forget which, the bongos came out. Have no idea what game it was though, something like Donkey Konga 2 : Hit Song Parade & Bongo (GameCube) maybe? Small didn’t like it at all, but Big got into the swing of it, particularly when R helped out by clapping at the right points :)

In and amongst we had lunch and tea, baby cuddling and chatting, and it was good. Must do it more often :)

Oh, and on the way home, Small requested music on, and then proceeded to clap along in time with it, very accurately. Can’t remember him ever doing that before, so obviously Donkey Konga was good, musically speaking, even if he didn’t enjoy it at the time!

I always maintained that Donkey Konga was part of our musical education when we first had it ;)

My kids could never play Mario Party without arguing. They have it on DS now, and they seem to manage better now with it (and they’re a bit older), but it’s never a given that they’ll finish a game.
