Preparing the battlefield…

was doing some research into the basic standards required for school leavers nowadays.

Found this site, which describes the Statutory requirements at key stage 4.

I’m intrigued - how do you enforce learning? As in:

compulsory areas of learning: careers education, sex education and work-related learning

I can see that you can require that education be offered, but I don’t know how you can require that someone learns what is on offer.

Then I found these gems

What, pray tell, is a “Certificate in Preparation for Working Life”? How have I managed to get so far through my working life without one? Can I get one from night school?

Mad. It’s all completely mad.

Meep. That really is quite bizarre. They missed out “Entry Level Certificate in Choosing Your Preparation Certificate”.

    Meanwhile, back at the ranch….

Mad, perhaps. Scary, definitely. I wonder whether someone in power has taken the term “university of life” rather too literally …

I’m studying for my diploma in towing the party line ;^P
