…returning exhausted from another expedition to one of W. Yorkshire’s high points. Driving north from Sheffield, I was treated to some spectacular lighting from the setting sun. Unfortunately, I missed a shot of the best of it, as I couldn’t find anywhere to stop while I was driving through
Hade Edge.
Our enterprising hosts were showcasing their latest product line, Child In A Box, which I think will go down a treat at Christmas with couples who are simply too busy to go through all the hassle of producing and raising children themselves.
I don’t think there is a great market for product no 2, Child In A Field, since it is supplied in kit form only, and I can’t see that most people are going to want to supply their own field. This is a shame as it does have excellent safety features.
While our family, fortunately, were spared the necessity, most of our party braved the elements and camped out for the weekend. I had hoped that I might be able to impress you, dear reader, with some action shots of tent chasing, but this popular Cumbrian sport doesn’t seem to have taken off
further south.
Saturday featured an interesting expotition to The Pump House, which involved quite considerable scrambling down (and up) steep stream banks and passing of small people from hand to hand.
The mini-trek also saw the launch of Child In A Stream, which is a superb idea, well suited to these days of global warming which will see many of our major cities disappearing beneath attractive, well-appointed sea surges in addition to the burst water mains.
The exertions were such that they necessitated a small excursion to
The Riverhead where suitable liquid refreshments (and
green cider) were obtained.
As the evening wore on, while Ady got a photography tutorial, Katy survived “Ordeal by French Knitting”, a two hour monologue by Jax about how you put a heel (she asked me how to spell it, sadly I was so taken aback I forgot to tell her the wrong answer) into a French knitted sock.
Barbara and Helen managed to get out of their turns by pretending to be engrossed in a puppet and a plastic ball thingy respectively…
…while Ady continued trying to get to grips with the basics of digital photography.
Poor Nic was not quite quick enough to escape her turn at the “Ordeal by French Knitting” monologue, but put on a brave, and almost convincing, show of enjoying it…
…before cracking in the middle of the second hour and revealing her true identity (to Stargate SG-1 fans) as a
Goauld System Lord
So, all in all, an excellent weekend, thank you to everyone for their friendship, tolerance and participation. But most of all thanks to our hosts Jan and Jon, for their superb hospitality and painted feet.

and clearly I’d no need to be quite so frugal with my packing, there was tons of extra storage space in those bags under my eyes!
