Memories

making them, revisiting them, using them.

On Tues, we stopped over at Jan’s. She’d invited a friend of hers over for drinks, someone I went to primary school with :) It was really lovely to catch up with Joanne – we had ‘met’ briefly on friends reunited a couple of years ago, but lost touch again, so it was good to get together in real life.

It was a slightly battered evening though – the children didn’t really want to go to sleep. Big had bounced herself practically into heat exhaustion on the bouncy castle at school, then finished up by twisting her knee, while Small was just tired, but still holding out well with the toilet thing. Apart from having given up doing poos that is, as he didn’t want to get anything dirty?! So they both carried on a fair bit, until I put Small upstairs into my bed, and left Big reciting Madeline to herself. I was very impressed with how well she was doing remembering it – she seems to have suddenly clicked on some kind of trick to commit things to memory and started to enjoy it too.

So that was Tuesday. Weds my sister K picked up the kids from school and took them to hers for tea – it went down well. So did her nachos when I went to pick them up ;) Small had moved his little problem on somewhat explosively thanks to judicious intake of orange juice, just as well as he was coming up to 4 days! and had been very restless overnight. He really enjoyed spending the evening at K’s and was quite upset today when I said they weren’t going there again, but coming home instead.

He’s had a fantastically successful day at school today, same pair of pants from drop off to pickup ;) And Big has done well – apparently she is amazingly caring and helpful, and should she want a job there when she grows up, it’s all set up already

So they’ve had a good week so far. I’ve had a good one too – today my employers announced that they are setting up a childcare voucher scheme, so we’ll be a little bit better off each month. Every little helps.

Now it’s bedtime. I’m sure there were other things I wanted to say, but I can’t remember them now ;)

In May, I ran into a guy that I went through all of school with. The home he grew up in was about 2 miles from the one I grew up in. It had probably been 10 years since I’d seen him.
