for the various news channels to stop telling those of us who *aren’t* living in a drought area that there is a drought. ‘Cos it hasn’t stopped raining here for days, my washing is stacking up, and my children are going stir crazy.
It’s rather like the post at I blame the patriarchy, where it is pointed out that women are always described in terms of men. (I know it’s a tenuous link, but I’m trying to work through something here, bear with me). We outside of london and the south are always described in terms of there. Now in some situations, that’s a valid thing to do, as the single largest majority of the population lives down there. But a drought is a geographical thing, and the majority of the country is not geographically in the south east, if you see what I mean.
You probably don’t. And that’s probably because I’m not making a lot of sense - I haven’t had my second cup of tea yet. I apologise - I’ll rectify that situation and may be back later. And for those used to discerning my mood through the pages of this blog, yes, I’m in a completely unnecessary bad mood. Why is there so much to do and so little time? I’m just an incompetent at time and self-management.

Oh I’m with you on the drought thing. My garden is back to swamp status and I want to plant things without getting trench foot.

And I’ve had to start stocking up on water with the shopping this week after listening to my Mums standpipe stories. On the plus side next door but two have put up and filled their swimming pool before Southern get a drought order so I know where we’ll be headed come the summer! I do feel sorry for you Jax, I can imagine its just as annoying as watching the weather telling us theres snow everywhere and Kent is snowbound when we haven’t even had rain. What did amuse me in a sighy kind of way was the drought map on the BBC site a couple of days ago that told me our water company has leaks equivalent of 89 litres per house hold per day. And then they have the gall to tell us we can’t wash cars and should only flush the loo if its a poo (”If its yellow let it mellow” apparently according to Ken Livingstone). Even more annoying is the people that keep declaring everytime its cloudy “And they keep telling us we have a water shortage”. One rain shower doesn’t fix years of water wastage!
yes, up here in “drought threatened” Cheshire it’s rained pretty much non-stop for ages too. I have on the line a full load of washing that is now thoroughly “rinsed” and heading towards that weathered look that was trendy in the 80s…. I’m just glad I live on top of a hill otherwise I’d be stockpiling sand bags not water just now
