How about starting the blogring book club at the top of the list? I just got Isabel Allende's House of Spirits - had to start somewhere and it seemed a good place to me. :)

Have read less than 5 of them but if I could include seeing the movie then I would get a much better rating.

Pretty much if I haven't read it or haven't seen it then I haven't heard of it. Who are these women writers? Are they modern? Last decade? Last quarter century? Last 100 years? How were these books chosen for the list?

I guess the aim of this is to promote women writers but if you applied the same criteria [whatever they were] to building a list of male writers, I would guess that my ratings of reading and viewing would not be much different. I pay so little attention to the name of the author unless the book is great and I want to find another, that I would venture to claim gender blindness in choosing a book.

Jax-- I bolded half the list! I've come to the conclusion it's because I'm older than everyone else doing the list! As the Babysitter Club books were way after my time! Anyway--Ayn Rand's The Fountainhead, or Atlas Shrugged are books that would be up your alley, from what I can tell from reading your blog--I strongly recommend them for you.

Wide Sargasso Sea is about Rochester's wife in Jane Eyre and was Jean Rhys's attempt to address the foul treatment she was given by C Bronte and is excellent. The Yellow Wallpaper is a small masterpiece, imo.

It's quite interesting to see what people have read. It looks like we've all read at least one Nancy Drew! Thanks for playing along.
