I suspect Tim wisely realises that you need to rant, not argue ;) A good rant is/can be very valuable, especially if it galvanises you into doing something positive.

No one likes a workday this time of year when you are stuck inside. A friend of mine used to work in a department store; she complained she went to work/came home in the dark and spent the day under flourescent light. She hated it but always made sure she went for a walk at lunchtime and sat outside to eat her lunch (unless chucking down with rain).

In the personal development part of my counselling course, we were taught to regularly evaluate our lives by writing down the positive/negative things that happen right now and then where we want to be in a years time. Then you work out the steps to get there. A long range forcast seems, psychologically, impossible, so you only do a short range forcast ie a year, and plan small changes that are manageable. You have to be totally honest about what you can/cannot achieve. It can also help to keep a journal to record how you feel, that way monitoring any recurring themes which you can then tackle. For example: I realised not that long ago that I had spent so much of this year involved with projects external to the family which had sapped my time, leaving me little to spend with the family or for myself. Once I recognised that, I could put a stop to it.

Likewise hate this time of year, its grey, getting cold, dark nearly all the time. At the same time you are considered a kill joy if you dont over spend yourself into debt for things you dont want or need, and over eat yourself into spending more money in January to get thin again.

I think its the darkness that gets me most. And then the cold and the wet. Fortunately I dont have to drive to work every day so I swear at idiots and then let them go like water off a ducks back. I can see it would be difficult if you a)have children in the back and b) have a time you have get somewhere else.

Enough waffle. I'm threatening a visit tomorrow.

Partners who refuse to argue are the most annoying sort!! But hope the ranting (and the not-arguing) is productive. Dokuwiki looks interesting ...
