I’ve always liked the idea of some sort of community, not shared house, but individual properties with a central aim and commitment Even Lee has mentioned how nice it would be to live in some sort of self-sufficient community with like minded people.

Not sure that I really like the idea of intentional community. I think I need my own space too much.

I would say that counted! Yes, it would be the getting on top of that would worry me – I do like my space. Not that I get much of it with children around anyway But having ppl around to share the workload with, now that would be the ideal. But definitely the village idea.

Mmm, communities. We house shared for a while, does that count? It was fantastic from the pov of the wives, who at the time were both at home with small babies (my 2nd, her 1st), we did a lot of sharing the workload with the children/housework etc., but after 18 months we (Steve and I, I mean) were both ready to do something different, as it did get on top of us to a certain extent.

I’ve noticed it tends to be women who are more receptive the idea of intentional communities. Maybe we see it more as a system of sharing work/childcare/food prep etc, and less of a territorial problem.

Mmm, the community thing is always interesting/somewhat appealing … I imagine starting one from scratch would be a nightmare – imagine all the arguments about where to have it for a start! Can’t see C wanting to go and join one either, lol.

That’s so bizaar because we were talking about exactly the same at NCT this morning. That is what Jayne and her partner are planning to do in the next year or so and are looking at various communities around the UK.
