Busy so far

And it’s only three o’clock.

Let’s see, we’ve read a couple of library books, and filled in the last parts of Big’s reading rollercoaster card. I thought that she was supposed to get something for finishing, but she just got two more sets of stickers - has anyone else completed theirs yet?

I’ve got a load of washing through, although now I need to go and hang it out ;-), shopped at the coop as well as visiting the library, entered the four books I bought to sell on on my booklist (little by little folks, little by little), washed up once, although you can’t tell (and this is why I *hate* housework!), fed the children three times already, filled in a form to join the cooperative society, debated religion with dp (again!), managed subscribers to our local email list, and prompted dp to fill in his bit of the tax credit form.

Last night I turned the computer off, and spent a very productive evening sorting through a huge pile of paper and stuff, which is now either in the bin, the recycling, an expanding file, a very small pile of things-which-require-action in front of me on the table, or back in the place it came from (but occupying one stacking crate neatly, rather than overflowing two.

And that was after we’d had E here for the morning, spent the afternoon at softplay with my mother and Big’s cousins, and done just the usual children things all day.

Phew, I’m getting somewhere, aren’t I? If I can just keep it up for a little while longer I might get on top of this house and my life for once!

Wow - well done you! I’m having a somewhat de-railed day here. Can’t get on track with anything and feel generally out of steam and tetchy. But you’ve just inspired me to get of my backside. ((Jax))

We gave up on the reading rollercoaster a few weeks ago when it became obvious that the librarians didn’t care and, I’m sure, simply didn’t like children …

Tax credits - filled mine in a while ago and they gave me some money in a lump but haven’t told me what or when any monthly payments might be … they are a law unto themselves!

I believe…or at least I was told…that you are meant to get a certificate and a medal.

We did last year anyway, and the librarian at our library told us it was the same deal this year. Not that we have completed it yet of course!

When DS finished the reading rollercoaster he got a medal but not a certificate. But he persists in telling us he came 2nd cos the medal is a silver colour, something gone wrong in his understanding of the scheme there then! The librarians seemed pretty confused about the whole thing and how it was supposed to work and are always a bit perplexed that DS talks to them??! They never take any interest in the books he’s reading. It’s only a small library so I like to support it though. There were activity sheets to go with each set of stickers and one was a free competition, though I don’t remember what the prize was.

Hi Kath - nice to see you here.

Usually our librarians are fantastic - couple of older women who know Big and Small by sight, always talk to them, have discussed suitable books with me and are lovely. Both of them were absent yesterday, and the computer system was down, so the two who were there were more than a little harassed.

And it sounds to me like your ds has got the hang of how medals work generally speaking - been watching the olympics has he?

Tilda got a medal - you have to fit in 4 visits to the library to get all everything: that’s the important bit, goign to the library, not reading the books …….

Oh, and we can pick up her certificate next time we go, once they’ve written it.

It said on the blurb about getting invited to a party, so I asked about that …… but apparently (they think ….) it was only for a limited amount of people. So the whole thing was a bit of an anticlimax really, and we went off to ToysRUs and bought presents instead :)
